The Challenge
Because my wife and I love Hawaii, I was tasked with creating a wedding invitation that would be memorable and share those island vibes.
The Solution
My research revealed that pineapples symbolize welcome and hospitality in Hawaii, often displayed at entrances to signify a warm greeting. I decided to make the pineapple the main focus of our invitations.
To make the invitations truly memorable, I chose a gift box design featuring our branded logo and a map highlighting the locations our guests are traveling from. Inside, along with the invitation card, we're including some fun swag items: sunglasses, shells, and mini bottles of Diplomático Rum—a favorite of ours!
Finally, we're adding our hashtag, #bernievalariealoha2019, to encourage guests to tag their posts on social media and create a central hub for sharing memories leading up to and after the wedding.
Art Direction
I chose colors to represent the beauty of Hawaii: yellows and oranges for the sandy beaches and stunning sunrises and sunsets, and blues for the clear skies and ocean waters.
Here's what I included in the invitation package:
• Gift Box: Featured our branded logo and a map showing the locations our guests

• Save-the-Date Luggage Tag: Guests can attach this to their luggage and fill in their

• Wedding Invitation: Designed as a boarding pass with all the wedding details.
• Branded Sunglasses: For our guests to wear at the wedding or during their stay in

The Results
My client (my wife, lol) loved the designs and how I branded everything together! I made sure to share progress updates with her throughout the process, something I've learned to do with my actual clients at work.
